This is a Named Cinema Canon Character, therefore no custom designs are allowed. You may costume as a custom Zabrak Sith or Dark Force user who resembles Darth Maul, but if costuming as Maul himself, your costume must be of great integrity and match the established characters rendition.

Costuming as Darth Maul is an ambitious undertaking, however not as difficult as it may first appear. Here are some comparison photos to help you get started.
RAY PARKS: The actor who portrayed Darth Maul in "Phantom Menace".

#3 CUT ACTION SHOT FROM: The Phantom Menace.
Darth Maul's attire was custom made by costume designer Trisha Biggar and her team. It was sewn from a hand woven fabric called Indian Homespun dyed black. The same material was used for the Jedi tunics.

Wrist link :: nice to have but not required
DARTH MAUL FACE MAKEUP :: There are 10 horn placements on the skull.
One on top, seven crowning the head, and one on each temple. Each horn is different, and the color is of old bone.
Link To Purchase Zabrak/Maul Horns: www.Forgerpops.com
The above horns are nice, but will require some sanding and dremaling to fit to your scalp.
You may also use a rubber face mask and cut the horns out, then spirit glue them to your head. You must leave enough of the mask around the base so the horns will stick better. We suggest referring to the tutorial link above for better instructions in this procedure.
THE TEETH: are rotted in appearance. Please refer to the link provided above for the application technique.
HORN PLACEMENT: There are 10 horns of varying size. Other than the larger horns on the skull, there are three smaller one. Two on each temple region and one at the base of the skull in the back.
TUTORIAL VIDEOS FOR APPLYING DARTH MAUL MAKE-UP: Facial Tattoos and skin color should be specific to Darth Maul. Again, also refer to the tutorial in the link above.
DARTH MAUL EYE: This is one costume which requires the contacts to be complete. If your sensitive to contacts, we do not recommend that you do a Darth Maul.
There are many reputable dealers to purchase aesthetic contacts from. The following dealer is where I purchased my Sith eyes, and only an example of the many places you can find to purchase your costuming contacts. You must see an optometrist to purchase most asthetic contacts, and even tho these do not come in prescriptions, this dealer also requires a visit to the eye Dr.
The contact called "Darth" are the ones you want for Mauls eyes.
The ones called "Darth" and the ones called "Sidious" are approved for all Sith eyes.
A Shout Out To The 501st Legion, who's excellent costuming site is where the below images of Darth Mauls costume assemblage were found.
DARTH MAUL EAR STUD :: Placement is on the upper lobe of the left ear. Of coarse if you already have a pierced ear in this location, or your willing to pierce your ear, that's great, but .... No, you do not have to pierce your ear to be Canon. You can purchase an ear stud that has a magnet on it to hold it to your ear.

DARTH MAUL TROUSER
The ballooned out look of the trouser is required. To achieve the ballooned look of Mauls trouser, large amounts of starch can be applied to the pants leg.

DARTH MAUL BOOT ::: Darth Maul Boot: The actual boots used for Darth Maul in the Phantom Menace, were Frank Thomas Titan Touring 101s.
For TDE's purposes, a similar Frank Thomas model (Voyager or Apollo) or any custom boot of a similar look are also acceptable.
DARTH MAUL DUAL BLADE LIGHT SABER.
The original prop proved to be too short for actor Ray Park to wield with the two blades. It was therefore recast with all it's details (except the large o-rings) and re-assembled, duplicating middle sections to add length. It was painted silver and assembled onto a 3/8" diameter steel rod. The emitter ends remained metal.
ORIGINAL PROP: As this saber was not worn in the movie, itis not approved for wear with the Maul costume. We are presenting for education purposes for the history of Star Wars productions.

Master Replicas has a beautiful version of the cinematic saber. It's expensive, but worth it. I own one myself for my Darth Zannah costume.
COVERTEC CLIP : On the right side of his black leather belt is a Covertec belt clip to hold his double-bladed light saber. These belt clips are produced by Covertec and used on their palm top computer carrying cases.
